Congo’s Ebola outbreak has surpassed 10,000 confirmed cases, with nearly half of those infected dying. Declared in May, it is the fastest-growing outbreak on record and has spread to Kenya and Nigeria. Responders face armed conflict, poor roads and public mistrust as they battle the rare Bundibugyo virus, for which there is no approved vaccine or treatment.
