Pakistan fires back at Afghan Taliban over ‘Baseless’ Civilian Death claims

26 October 2026 at 10:33

ISLAMABAD – Pakistan turned down Afghan Taliban’s allegations that its military operations have killed and injured Afghan civilians, escalating an already volatile dispute over cross-border terrorism, airstrikes and regional security.

Foreign Office termed to Afghan accusations “baseless and unsubstantiated,” defending its military actions as necessary responses to persistent terrorist threats.

Islamabad maintained that its operations were conducted with restraint, remained proportionate to the threats involved and targeted terrorist organizations and their logistical infrastructure rather than civilians. The statement invoked the principles of self-defence, necessity and last resort, while emphasizing compliance with the international humanitarian law principles of distinction and precaution.

Pakistan also delivered pointed warning: it reserves the right to take whatever measures are necessary to protect its sovereignty, territorial integrity and citizens.

The latest exchange shows deepening confrontation between Islamabad and Kabul, with both sides advancing sharply conflicting accounts of military operations and civilian casualties.

Afghan territory caused more than 3,500 casualties in Pakistan during 2026. Foreign Office accused Afghan Taliban authorities of failing to prevent militant organizations, particularly Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA), from operating across the border.

As per Pakistani officials reports, around 1,327 deaths and 2,484 injuries occurred due to terrorism originating from Afghanistan. These figures shows massive scale of the threat Islamabad says it faces from Western neighbour.

Pakistan has repeatedly argued that the presence of armed groups in Afghanistan has allowed attacks against its security personnel, police and civilians to continue despite repeated diplomatic appeals.

Afghan authorities countered Pakistan’s claims with allegations of significant civilian losses caused by Pakistani military strikes. Afghan Foreign Ministry spokesperson Abdul Qahar Balkhi reportedly told CNN that Pakistani operations had killed or injured 1,119 Afghan civilians since late 2021 or early 2022. Afghan media outlets, including Tolo News, reported similar claims around October 25–26, 2026.

Pakistan however rejected allegations that its forces deliberately target civilians, maintaining that its operations are directed against terrorist hideouts and infrastructure used to plan and support attacks. The competing figures remain difficult to reconcile independently. Access restrictions, security conditions and conflicting accounts complicate efforts to establish the precise number of civilian casualties and determine responsibility for individual incidents.

Nevertheless, the allegations intensified diplomatic pressure on both sides, placing civilian protection at the centre of an increasingly bitter security dispute.

Pakistan strengthened its argument by pointing to findings from United Nations monitoring mechanisms concerning militant activity in Afghanistan. UN Analytical Support and Sanctions Monitoring Team’s 38th report, covering December 16, 2025, to June 9, 2026, identified continued Taliban support for the TTP as a factor contributing to the increased frequency and lethality of terrorist attacks in Pakistan.

The report also termed relocation of around 2,000 TTP fighters and their family members farther into Afghanistan, alongside continuing concerns about militant networks operating within the country. UN reporting has also examined connections among the TTP, Al-Qaeda, Islamic State Khorasan Province and other militant organizations, including the BLA.

For Islamabad, these findings reinforce its longstanding contention that militant activity inside Afghanistan represents a direct threat to Pakistan’s national security.

Afghan Taliban denies systematically supporting groups that attack Pakistan. The disagreement over the TTP’s presence, activities and relationship with Afghan authorities remains one of the most serious obstacles to stabilizing bilateral relations.

Foreign Office statement also comes amid a separate dispute involving former US special representative for Afghanistan Zalmay Khalilzad. Around October 24–25, Pakistan’s information ministry rejected allegations attributed to Khalilzad that Islamabad was arming Afghans or recruiting them to fight the Taliban in connection with anti-Pakistan insurgent activity.

Pakistani officials described the allegations as baseless and misleading, arguing that they distracted attention from the presence of militant groups accused of operating from Afghan territory. Islamabad again cited UN reporting on the TTP and Al-Qaeda to support its position that Afghan authorities must prevent their territory from being used to organize attacks against Pakistan.

Pakistan’s Upgraded Fatah IV meets India’s 800km BrahMos Missile, Is Mumbai in Range?

26 October 2026 at 10:11

ISLAMABAD – Pakistan’s latest cruise missile test shows a potential shift in conventional restraint , with an extended-range variant reportedly exceeding 750 kilometers and raising new questions about India’s military vulnerability, US publication The Diplomat reported.

The upgraded Fatah-IV missile test reshapes strategic calculations between Islamabad and New Delhi. The country tested extended-range version of Fatah-IV ground-launched cruise missile, showing range exceeding 750 kms and potentially expanding Pakistan’s ability to threaten military installations deep inside Indian territory.

The test marks third known launch of the Fatah-IV system, following earlier trial in May 2026. Unlike the previous tests, the latest launch reportedly involved an extended-range configuration, suggesting that Pakistan is working to increase the reach of its conventional precision-strike capabilities. Although the missile’s maximum operational range has not been independently established, some assessments based on available imagery suggest that the upgraded version could eventually approach 1,000 kilometers. If that estimate proves accurate, the system could significantly broaden Pakistan’s conventional strike options.

First publicly displayed during Pakistan’s Independence Day celebrations on August 14, 2025, the Fatah-IV emerged against the backdrop of the military confrontation between India and Pakistan that year.

The ground-launched cruise missile reportedly travels at speeds of up to Mach 0.7 and carries 330-kilogram blast-fragmentation warhead. Its terrain-hugging flight profile is intended to reduce radar exposure by allowing it to fly at low altitudes, potentially complicating detection and interception. Pictures of extended-range variant appear to show changes to the missile’s aerodynamic configuration. Its wings seem to have moved from the central portion of the fuselage to a position beneath the body. The newer missile also appears somewhat larger than its predecessor.

These differences show redesigned airframe or changes intended to accommodate additional fuel. However, the precise engineering modifications and maximum range of the upgraded missile remain unconfirmed. The reported performance nevertheless points to a clear strategic objective: increasing the distance from which Pakistan can threaten high-value targets with conventional weapons.

One of the key consequential implications of Fatah-IV upgrade concerns future operational strategy of the Indian Air Force (IAF). Following aircraft losses reported during the May 6–7, 2025, confrontation, India could place greater emphasis on launching weapons from aircraft operating farther from Pakistani airspace. Such an approach would reduce the need for Indian fighters to enter areas where they might face Pakistani aircraft and air defense systems.

Longer-range air-launched weapons would be central to that strategy. They could allow the IAF to engage targets while keeping its aircraft at a greater distance from hostile defenses. India’s reported plans to extend range of its BrahMos supersonic cruise missile could further strengthen this capability. Some reports have put the proposed range of an upgraded BrahMos at approximately 800 kilometers, although the operational status and deployment timeline of such a variant remain important uncertainties.

For Pakistan, the prospect of Indian aircraft launching long-range weapons from relatively secure locations creates a difficult challenge. Its response would not necessarily depend on intercepting every incoming missile or engaging every attacking aircraft. Instead, Islamabad could seek to hold the infrastructure supporting those operations at risk.

Is Mumbai in Range?

Mumbai is particularly important. If extended-range Fatah-IV achieves range suggested by some preliminary assessments, parts of the Mumbai region could potentially fall within reach from suitable launch locations in Pakistan.

Such a possibility would carry implications beyond the immediate physical effects of a missile strike. The threat to a major financial center could affect investor sentiment, public confidence, commercial activity, and political calculations during a crisis.

Pakistan could view this capability as a means of reinforcing deterrence against conventional attacks on its own cities and economic infrastructure. The underlying logic is that decision-makers may exercise greater restraint if they believe that an attack against their adversary’s urban centers could invite retaliation against their own.

However, the existence of a missile capable of reaching a metropolitan area does not automatically make a retaliatory threat credible. Its effectiveness would depend on operational readiness, targeting accuracy, the ability to penetrate defenses, and the willingness of political leaders to authorize its use.

India’s growing investment in air and missile defense presents another potential reason for Pakistan to pursue longer-range cruise missiles. Since 2025 confrontation, New Delhi moved to strengthen its defensive architecture through additional systems, including the Russian-origin S-400. India has also advanced its indigenous Kusha long-range interceptor program and announced Mission Sudarshan Chakra, an initiative intended to improve the integration and effectiveness of the country’s defensive capabilities.

For Pakistan, these developments create pressure to ensure that its conventional strike options remain credible against increasingly sophisticated defenses.

Fatah-IV’s low-altitude flight profile could offer a potential advantage. Terrain-hugging cruise missiles can exploit the radar horizon and surrounding terrain to reduce the distance at which certain ground-based sensors detect them. This may shorten the time available to identify, track, and engage an incoming weapon.

Yet the technology does not make the missile undetectable. Modern air defense networks can combine multiple sensors and interception systems, while the effectiveness of low-altitude flight depends on terrain, radar coverage, electronic warfare, and other operational factors. The extended-range configuration could nevertheless complicate India’s defensive planning by combining a longer potential flight distance with a flight profile intended to reduce exposure to detection.

For Islamabad, the objective may be to preserve a credible conventional strike option even as New Delhi strengthens its ability to defend strategically important sites.

Fatah-IV’s development speaks of broader security consequences of May 2025 conflict. That confrontation underscored importance of airpower, long-range weapons, military infrastructure, and the ability to impose costs beyond the immediate battlefield. It also reinforced the importance of maintaining credible retaliation options in a region where conventional clashes can carry the risk of wider escalation.

Pakistan framed military modernization as necessary to protect its national security and territorial sovereignty. In this context, the extended-range Fatah-IV can be understood as part of a wider effort to strengthen conventional counterforce capabilities. Rather than relying exclusively on aircraft, Pakistan could use ground-launched cruise missiles to threaten selected military targets without requiring its own aircraft to penetrate defended airspace. This could provide additional flexibility during a confrontation and complicate an adversary’s planning.

For India, the development could add another consideration to the protection of airbases, radar sites, and other strategic installations. For Pakistan, it could provide an additional instrument for deterring attacks and responding to a future confrontation.

Pakistan Beats Italy France To Secure 2nd Spot In Global Military Drone Competition

The competition focused on the ability of trained military personnel to operate drones with speed, accuracy and control under demanding conditions. The participating countries were allowed to send teams consisting of no more than three members. Each team had to include at least two qualified First-Person View (FPV) drone pilots, who were required to be either active-duty military personnel or reservists.

FPV technology allows operators to fly drones using a real-time camera feed, giving them a pilot’s-eye view of the aircraft’s surroundings. This capability has become increasingly important in modern military operations.

During the competition, participants were required to navigate their drones along a designated route while attempting to complete the course in the shortest possible time. Teams recording the fastest performances advanced to the final stage, where their ability to maintain control, navigate accurately and complete the challenge under pressure determined their standings.

Pakistan’s performance proved strong enough to secure second place overall, ahead of several technologically advanced countries.

Pakistan’s success comes as the country continues expanding its domestic drone development programmes while maintaining defence technology partnerships with allies, particularly Türkiye.

The South Asian nation used combination of Turkish-made and locally developed unmanned aerial vehicles during its brief military confrontation with India in May 2025. The reported systems included the Turkish YIHA-III and ASISGUARD SONGAR drones, along with Pakistan’s indigenous Shahpar-II unmanned aerial vehicle.

Shahpar-II was developed by Global Industrial & Defence Solutions (GIDS), a Pakistani state-owned defence organisation involved in developing military equipment and advanced technologies. These systems reflect Pakistan’s broader ambition to strengthen domestic defence manufacturing, reduce dependence on imported military equipment and expand its capabilities in unmanned warfare.

The achievement in Ankara also comes against the backdrop of longstanding defence cooperation between Pakistan and Türkiye. Both countries maintain close military relations encompassing training, defence equipment, technological cooperation and broader strategic engagement.

Their partnership has received renewed attention amid efforts to deepen security coordination with Saudi Arabia. In August, Pakistan, Türkiye and Saudi Arabia were reported to have signed a trilateral defence agreement in Makkah, featuring a collective-defence commitment under which an attack on one participating country would be treated as an attack on all three.

WhatsApp Web, Desktop Users in Pakistan Warned of Cyberattacks on Windows PCs

26 October 2026 at 08:32

ISLAMABAD – Pakistan issued HIGH-level cyberattack alert, warning government officials to immediately stop using WhatsApp Web and Desktop on Windows computers as hackers target users with malicious files capable of stealing passwords, sensitive data and gaining remote control of devices.

Pakistan’s National Cyber Emergency Response Team (National CERT) declared HIGH-level cybersecurity threat, urging government officials and individuals handling confidential data to immediately avoid using WhatsApp Web and WhatsApp Desktop on Windows systems.

The emergency advisory warns that cybercriminals are exploiting messaging platforms and emails to launch targeted phishing attacks, distribute malicious files and gain unauthorized access to computers.

Malware as Documents

According to CERT, attackers are impersonating government departments, officials and trusted contacts to deceive their targets. Malicious files are being circulated through WhatsApp Web, WhatsApp Desktop and email, often disguised as important official documents.

If users open and execute the malicious content, hackers could gain remote access to their Windows computers, steal passwords and obtain confidential information.

The threat is particularly concerning for government departments and organisations dealing with sensitive records, where a single compromised computer could expose valuable data.

The cybersecurity watchdog has warned that users should not automatically trust messages received from familiar WhatsApp contacts. An unexpected document, attachment or suspicious link, even from someone known to the recipient, could be part of a targeted cyberattack.

National CERT has also advised users to regularly inspect WhatsApp’s Linked Devices section, warning that an unfamiliar connected device could indicate unauthorized account access.

As urgent precaution, the national cybersecurity agency has recommended that officials handling sensitive information stop using WhatsApp Web and WhatsApp Desktop on Windows computers. The advisory also warns against transferring files received through WhatsApp to official Windows systems.

Users have been instructed to immediately terminate suspicious WhatsApp Web sessions, avoid unverified attachments and never disclose passwords, one-time passwords (OTPs) or verification codes. National CERT has further recommended enabling two-step verification on WhatsApp and other online accounts.

Windows operating systems, web browsers and installed applications should also be updated with the latest security patches.

The advisory outlines immediate emergency measures for anyone who suspects their computer or WhatsApp account has been compromised. Affected Windows computers should be disconnected from the internet and local networks without delay to limit further unauthorized access.

Users should preserve suspicious messages, attachments and relevant system logs as evidence and avoid reopening potentially malicious files.

The warning does not amount to a nationwide WhatsApp ban. Instead, it specifically highlights the dangers of using WhatsApp Web and Desktop on Windows systems handling sensitive information.

Sahibzada Farhan replaces Saim Ayub in Pakistan ODI Squad after Shock Exit

26 October 2026 at 08:11

LAHORE – Pakistan Cricket makes major change to unbeaten ODI tri-series squad, with struggling opener Saim Ayub stepping away from action amid string of disappointing performances.

PCB confirmed Sahibzada Farhan as his replacement, raising fresh questions over the national team’s opening combination just days before the tournament final. The unexpected development comes less than 24 hours after Pakistan pulled off sensational one-wicket victory over England at Gaddafi Stadium, where another top-order failure nearly cost the hosts the match.

Despite Men in Green’s winning consecutive matches and securing a place in the final, the team management has moved to address growing concerns surrounding the opening batting positions.

Saim Ayub leaves Pakistan Squad

PCB clarified that Saim Ayub himself requested to be released from the national squad. The left-handed opener approached head coach Mike Hesson and expressed concerns about his recent batting performances, seeking an opportunity to return to domestic cricket to regain his form and confidence.

Amid consultations, the national selectors and coaching staff accepted his request, appreciating the youngster’s willingness to acknowledge his shortcomings and work on improving his game. The decision means Saim will miss the remaining matches of the ODI tri-series involving Pakistan, England and Sri Lanka.

Cricket board has neither announced a timeline for his return nor clarified whether he will be considered for Pakistan’s next international assignment.

Saim’s struggles came under renewed scrutiny during Sunday’s dramatic clash against England, where he managed just six runs before returning to the pavilion. His early dismissal contributed to a disastrous start for Pakistan, leaving the hosts facing the possibility of their first defeat in the competition.

Meanwhile, all-rounder Shadab Khan produced sensational rescue on Sunday, smashing an unbeaten 113 to turn the contest in Pakistan’s favour. With the match hanging in the balance, Shadab and Haris Rauf stitched together an extraordinary unbeaten last-wicket partnership to secure a thrilling one-wicket triumph.

The victory extended Pakistan’s winning streak, but the recurring failures at the top of the order remained a serious concern. Even before the England encounter, captain Shaheen Shah Afridi had acknowledged the inconsistent performances of Pakistan’s opening batters and indicated that the management had alternative options available.

As Saim heads back to domestic cricket, Sahibzada Farhan has been handed another opportunity to establish himself in Pakistan’s ODI setup. The right-handed opening batter was surprisingly absent from the original tri-series squad but has now received a call-up for the remaining matches.

Farhan’s selection comes after he was entrusted with significant leadership responsibilities in Pakistan’s shorter-format cricket. Earlier this month, he was named captain of Pakistan’s T20I team for the series against Sri Lanka. He also led the national side at the Asian Games.

Saim’s exit is not the only adjustment made to Pakistan’s squad. Just a day earlier, the selectors included promising 21-year-old batter Maaz Sadaqat, who had initially been excluded from the tri-series. The young cricketer was drafted into the squad as additional cover for players experiencing minor fitness problems.

His inclusion followed the release of left-arm wrist-spinner Sufiyan Moqim, who was instructed to resume domestic cricket. According to the PCB, the decision involving Sufiyan was influenced by the characteristics of the pitches at Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium.

Pakistan’s recent performances have produced contrasting pictures. On one hand, the hosts remain unbeaten after winning their opening three matches and have already secured qualification for the tri-series final. On the other, repeated top-order setbacks have exposed vulnerabilities that could prove costly in high-pressure encounters.

Pakistan will face Sri Lanka in the fifth match of the tournament at Gaddafi Stadium on Tuesday, October 27. The final is scheduled for Saturday, October 31, at the same venue.

The impact was so severe that the vehicle caught fire shortly after plunging into the ravine, leaving seven occupants dead at the scene. Among those who lost their lives were 40-year-old Arshad, 35-year-old Nighat, 17-year-old Laiba, 10-year-old Tayyab Mahmood, seven-year-old Raima Noor, four-year-old Kashan and one-and-a-half-year-old Aima Noor.

The deaths of several young children, including a toddler who had barely begun her life, added to the scale of the tragedy. Rescue authorities confirmed that the vehicle was carrying 14 people when the accident occurred. However, details about the condition of the remaining occupants were not immediately available.

After tragic accident, the bodies of the seven victims were shifted to Holy Family Hospital in Rawalpindi for necessary medico-legal formalities.

The incident came just a day after another devastating road accident near Muzaffarabad claimed seven lives, raising fresh concerns over road safety in Pakistan’s mountainous regions.

In previous incident, a passenger jeep carrying seven people, including two children, plunged into a deep ravine in the Shakar Pattian area on the outskirts of Muzaffarabad. Rescue officials said the jeep was loaded with grass and travelling along a difficult mountainous route when the driver reportedly lost control, sending the vehicle crashing into the gorge.

Together, the two accidents have claimed 14 lives in just two days, once again showing deadly road accidents on treacherous mountain routes, where steep drops and difficult driving conditions can turn a momentary loss of control into a major disaster.

RAWALPINDI – Former Chief of Army Staff General (r) Abdul Waheed Kakar, who led the Pakistan Army during one of the country’s most turbulent political periods, breathed his last at age of 89, ISPR said Monday.

Fileld Marshal Syed Asim Munir and top military brass expressed deep grief over the passing of the former army chief, whose military career spanned more than three decades. Gen Asim Munir along with officers and soldiers of the Pakistan Army, paid tribute to General Kakar’s leadership, professional dedication and contributions to the country’s armed forces.

The military leadership extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and prayed for the departed general to be granted a high place in Jannat-ul-Firdous. The Pakistan Army also expressed solidarity with his family during this difficult time.

Who was General Abdul Waheed Kakar?

Born in Peshawar in 1937, General Abdul Waheed Kakar belonged to a Pashtun family with ancestral roots in Balochistan’s Kakar tribe. He was also the nephew of Sardar Abdur Rab Nishtar, a prominent figure in the Pakistan Movement.

His military journey started at Pakistan Military Academy, and he was commissioned into the Frontier Force Regiment in 1959. During his military career, Kakar took part in 1965 and 1971 wars between Pakistan and India. He served in the Chawinda sector near Sialkot during the 1965 war and was subsequently deployed in the Sulemanki sector during the 1971 conflict.

Over the following decades, he rose through the army’s ranks and held several key appointments, including General Officer Commanding of the 16th Infantry Division, Adjutant General at General Headquarters and commander of XII Corps in Quetta.

His career took a decisive turn in January 1993 when then-Army Chief General Asif Nawaz Janjua died unexpectedly. Kakar, who was serving as corps commander in Quetta, was selected to lead the Pakistan Army despite several officers being senior to him. He took command on January 12, 1993, and remained Chief of Army Staff until January 12, 1996, completing his three-year tenure.

With the political situation deteriorating, General Kakar played a central role in negotiations that eventually resulted in both Nawaz Sharif and Ghulam Ishaq Khan stepping down in July 1993. The political settlement became widely known as the Kakar Formula, a term that remains part of Pakistan’s political history more than three decades later.

The agreement paved the way for a caretaker government headed by Moeen Qureshi and fresh general elections, which ultimately brought Benazir Bhutto back to power. Unlike earlier military interventions, General Kakar did not impose martial law or assume control of the government. Nevertheless.

Another part in General Kakar’s career came in 1996, when his 3-year term as army chief ended. Then-PM Shaheed Benazir Bhutto offered him an extension in service, but he reportedly declined the proposal and chose to retire on schedule. His decision attracted attention in Pakistan’s political and military circles, particularly because extensions for senior military commanders have frequently remained a contentious issue.

After leaving armed force, General Kakar preferred private life rather than maintaining a prominent role in national affairs.

State Bank raises Policy Rate to 12pc as Inflation risks Mount in Pakistan

26 October 2026 at 10:55

KARACHI – State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) jacked up its benchmark policy rate by 50 basis points to 12%, in line with market expectations, as policymakers seek to contain inflationary pressures and address growing economic uncertainties.

The decision was taken by the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) at its third meeting of the fiscal year 2026–27 on Monday.

Borrowing costs in Pakistan could rise again as State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) prepares to reveal monetary policy decision today, with a majority of financial market participants expecting interest rate increase amid mounting inflation fears and soaring global oil prices.

SBP keeps Interest Rate at 11.5% as Oil Prices fuel fresh Inflation Fears

Topline Securities itself supports forecast of 50-basis-point increase, arguing that the ongoing geopolitical crisis and uncertainty surrounding global energy supplies have significantly increased the risks facing Pakistan’s economy. The brokerage warned that prolonged disruptions could fuel inflation and create additional pressure on the country’s external financial position.

Another brokarge house also backed expectations of rate hike, forecasting that MPC will increase borrowing costs by 50 basis points. It also pointed to improving economic activity, suggesting that the central bank has room to introduce a measured increase before inflationary pressures become more entrenched.

The Monday’s meeting could have implications for businesses, investors and ordinary Pakistanis. An increase in the policy rate would make fresh borrowing more expensive and could raise repayments on loans linked to floating interest rates. Businesses dependent on bank financing could face higher operating costs, potentially affecting investment and expansion plans.

25 October 2026 at 10:41

ISLAMABAD – Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif launched an ambitious programme to provide half a million Chromebooks to students nationwide over the next two years, opening new doors to digital learning for hundreds of thousands of young Pakistanis.

Prime Minister’s Youth Chromebook Scheme was formally inaugurated at a ceremony in Islamabad today, marking another step towards making tech -based education more accessible, particularly for students who cannot afford modern digital devices.

Addressing the ceremony, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif made it clear that Pakistan’s greatest investment was not in buildings or infrastructure alone, but in the education and capabilities of its young population. PM termed students country’s most valuable asset and stressed that providing them with modern educational tools was a collective responsibility of the government and the state.

5Lac Chromebooks in Two Years

Sharif led government plans to provide half million Chromebooks within two years, substantially accelerating the pace of its previous student technology initiatives.

He highlighted progress made under PML-N govt, and recalled that approximately 600,000 laptops had been distributed to students over a decade. This time, the government intends to provide 500,000 devices in only 24 months, reflecting its renewed emphasis on expanding digital access in education.

Pm Youth Chromebook Scheme 2026 Launched Check Eligibility And Application Details

PM stressed that the distribution would recognize students’ hard work, abilities and educational achievements, reinforcing the principle that opportunities should be linked to merit rather than financial privilege. He also expressed optimism that the Chromebooks would help young Pakistanis continue their education remotely, participate in virtual classrooms and access learning material that was previously beyond their reach.

Delivering a message of encouragement to young Pakistanis, Shehbaz said that intelligence, ambition and determination were not confined to wealthy households. He stressed that students from financially disadvantaged families possessed the same potential to excel as their more privileged counterparts, provided they were given equal opportunities.

The government was committed to removing barriers that prevented deserving students from receiving quality education and preparing themselves for future challenges. Chromebook programme is intended to support this vision by bringing modern digital learning tools within the reach of students across the country.

He also highlighted the government’s continuing efforts to strengthen education through the expansion of Danish schools. Sharif announced that at least 27 such institutions were being established across Pakistan to provide modern educational facilities and essential services to deserving students completely free of charge.

Prime Minister’s Youth Programme Chairman Rana Mashhood Ahmad Khan, who addressed the ceremony before the premier, described the Chromebook initiative as an important development in the government’s efforts to empower young people. He revealed that the Tokyo Technology Care Foundation had taken practical steps to support digital facilities for 500,000 Pakistani students.

Eligibility

Only students enrolled in Government/Public Schools can apply. Private school students are not eligible.

Eligibility depends on the region:

  • Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Balochistan: Top-performing Grade 9 (SSC-I) students.
  • AJK, Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT), and Gilgit-Baltistan: Top-performing students of both Grade 9 (SSC-I) and Grade 10 (SSC-II).

Students must appear on the list of top performers that their education board has submitted to IBCC. There is no single nationwide marks cutoff; each board decides its own “top-performing” criteria.

How to Apply

Applications are submitted online only through the official portal: https://pmychromebooks.ibcc.edu.pk/

Simple steps:

  1. Select your education board.
  2. Enter your CNIC/B-Form number, roll number, or registration number (numbers only, no dashes) along with your date of birth.
  3. Click “Find my record” to load your details from the board’s list.
  4. Review the information carefully.
  5. Upload the required documents.
  6. Submit the form and download your reference slip.

You can apply only once. Once submitted, the form cannot be edited. If your record is not found, try a different number or contact your school/board. Providing incorrect information can cancel your allocation.

Documents Needed

Prepare clear scans (each under 300 KB):

  • Recent colour photograph (front-facing, plain background) – JPG or PNG
  • SSC-I or SSC-II mark sheet – JPG, PNG or PDF
  • Attested copy of your B-Form or CNIC – JPG, PNG or PDF
  • Attested copy of father’s or guardian’s CNIC – JPG, PNG or PDF

The announcement has generated interest among students seeking access to free educational devices. However, the government has not yet detailed the complete application and registration process in the information shared at the launch.

The official registration portal, eligibility conditions, application deadlines, academic criteria and province-wise distribution arrangements have yet to be clarified.

Students should therefore follow updates from the Prime Minister’s Youth Programme and other authorized government channels for information about how to apply.

The launch of the 500,000-Chromebook initiative, alongside the expansion of Danish schools, signals a broader effort to strengthen Pakistan’s education sector by connecting academic opportunity with modern technology.

For hundreds of thousands of students, particularly those from families struggling to afford digital devices, the programme could provide an important opportunity to access learning resources, develop valuable skills and pursue a more promising educational future.

After France, Madrid other European Cities rocked by Mass Protests, Violence and Looting

25 October 2026 at 10:32

MADRID – A fresh wave of unrest swept across Europe, with hundreds of thousands taking to the streets of France, Spain, Italy, Albania and Portugal to protest rising living costs, housing shortages, education problems and growing dissatisfaction with government policies.

It all started as peaceful demonstrations in several EU cities but escalated into violent clashes, leaving police officers and protesters injured, businesses vandalized and hundreds of people under arrest. Youngsters, including teenagers and school students, emerged as key force in the unrest, while social media played a major role in bringing crowds onto the streets.

BREAKING: Mass protests sweep Europe.
· France: 410k march, 70k police, nearly 1,000 arrested.
· Italy: 500 soldiers deploy in Milan, luxury boutiques boarded up.
· Spain: 25k demand pensions in Madrid.
· Albania: Agriculture Ministry entrance set on fire. https://t.co/YozeWNoiSu

— HINT News (@9415st) October 25, 2026

The latest demonstrations followed earlier weekend of serious disturbances, forcing European authorities to tighten security, deploy additional police personnel and warn of tougher action against those involved in violence.

France witnessed some of major demonstrations, with protesters venting anger over rising household expenses, deteriorating public services, inequality and problems within the education system. Over weekend, around half million people participated in demonstrations across the country, according to official estimates, while trade unions claimed the actual turnout could have reached 800,000.

BREAKING: Chaos Erupts In Barcelona As Protest Turns Violent, More Than 100 Arrested https://t.co/xYvIXwvXP5

— Geopolitics Now 360 (@geopoliticsnow_) October 25, 2026

Authorities deployed thousands of security personnel to maintain order as large crowds gathered in Paris, Marseille and other major cities. Although many demonstrations remained peaceful, confrontations erupted in several locations when masked groups clashed with police. Security forces used tear gas and water cannon to disperse violent protesters, while nearly 1,000 people were reportedly detained.

The latest disturbances came just a week after an even more intense outbreak of violence, during which reports indicated approximately 2,400 arrests and injuries to nearly 1,000 security personnel. Student groups also joined the protests, demanding better school facilities, more teachers and increased education funding, adding further pressure on the French government.

Barcelona became another flashpoint after hundreds of young demonstrators gathered near Plaça de Catalunya on Saturday, October 24, following protest calls circulated through social media. The gathering, attended by estimated 500 to 600 people, quickly deteriorated as groups dressed in black and wearing face coverings began confronting police, damaging public property and setting fires.

Several vehicles, rubbish containers and street installations were set ablaze, while shops were vandalized and looted. Firefighters responded to more than 30 incidents as violence spread through parts of the city, disrupting public transport and leaving some shoppers temporarily trapped inside commercial establishments.

Authorities also seized knives, sprays, fireworks, masks and other objects allegedly carried by those involved in the disturbances. Barcelona Mayor Jaume Collboni and Catalan President Salvador Illa strongly condemned the violence and warned that those responsible would face legal consequences.

The unusually high number of teenagers involved has also prompted discussions about parental responsibility and the growing influence of online protest campaigns.

Albania Protests

Albania has also been jolted by demonstrations as thousands of protesters demand the resignation of Prime Minister Edi Rama. Public frustration over alleged corruption, education costs, economic difficulties and government policies has fueled the unrest, with students and opposition supporters taking part in successive rallies.

Tensions escalated again in the capital, Tirana, on October 24 when protesters confronted security forces near government buildings. Police used tear gas and other crowd-control measures after groups allegedly threw stones and attacked public property.

Dozens of people were detained, while reports covering the wider period of unrest indicated that more than 300 protesters and police personnel had been injured. Authorities have accused disruptive groups and alleged outside elements of provoking violence, but opposition activists insist that the demonstrations reflect genuine anger over the country’s political and economic situation.

Italy Protests

Italy experienced protests across several major cities, including Milan, Rome, Turin, Naples, Bologna and Florence, as demonstrators raise concerns about inflation, education, public services and government spending priorities.

Some protesters have also opposed increased military expenditure and international conflicts. Earlier demonstrations, particularly in Milan, were marked by vandalism, fires and confrontations involving stones, bottles and fireworks.

Madrid Protests

While some cities witnessed violent disorder, protesters in Madrid focused on pension protection and economic security. Around 25,000 people gathered in the Spanish capital on October 24 to demand improvements to the public pension system and stronger financial safeguards for retirees.

Demonstrators called for pensions to remain linked to inflation, minimum retirement payments to move closer to the national minimum wage and action to reduce inequalities between male and female pension recipients. They also opposed proposals that could increase private-sector involvement in retirement benefits.

Spain simultaneously faced growing anger over housing affordability, with campaigners protesting against expensive rents, evictions and property speculation.

Portugal Joins Growing Protests

Similar concerns have triggered protests in Portugal, where residents of Lisbon and Porto have taken to the streets over rising housing expenses and the shortage of affordable accommodation.

Protesters established temporary encampments to highlight the difficulties faced by tenants and lower-income households. Tensions escalated when police moved to clear some protest sites, resulting in confrontations and arrests.

The demonstrations have drawn attention to growing frustration among younger residents who say increasing housing costs are making independent living and long-term financial security increasingly difficult.

Despite differences in political demands, the demonstrations reveal common concerns affecting several European countries. Rising prices, housing insecurity, pressure on public services and dissatisfaction with political leadership have contributed to growing public frustration, particularly among younger generations.

Pakistan brokers New Iran-US Peace Push as Threat of Another Major Attack looms

25 October 2026 at 10:02

TEHRAN/WASHINGTON – A possible diplomatic breakthrough between Iran and United States emerged amid growing fears of another devastating military confrontation, with reports claiming Tehran is prepared to reopen Strait of Hormuz if Washington ends its blockade of Iranian ports.

Iranian sources issued conflicting statements over the proposal, raising questions about whether the two countries are moving closer to negotiations or another round of military strikes. The latest development comes as Pakistan steps up efforts to facilitate dialogue between Washington and Tehran, while reports of fresh American and Israeli military preparations have triggered widespread anxiety across Iran.

Al Arabiya reported that Tehran communicated through Pakistani intermediaries that it could allow shipping operations to resume through the strategically important Strait of Hormuz if US withdraws its naval restrictions on Iranian ports.

The report also claimed that Tehran informed Islamabad of its willingness to restart negotiations with Washington, offering potential opening in a confrontation that has disrupted regional trade and global energy markets. Iranian Ambassador to Pakistan Reza Amiri Moghadam reportedly acknowledged Tehran’s willingness to restore shipping through the waterway under certain conditions, according to an Associated Press report dated October 24.

An Iranian source speaking to Tasnim news agency challenged that account, insisting that no fresh proposal had been delivered to Pakistan and rejecting the suggestion that Tehran had agreed to exchange the reopening of the strait for the removal of the US blockade. The conflicting claims mean that neither the existence nor the precise terms of a new diplomatic offer have been firmly established.

While diplomatic channels remain active, the threat of another war is dominating public concern inside Iran. Reports that United States and Israel prepared plans for renewed military strikes have unsettled Iranian communities already struggling with the consequences of earlier attacks.

American officials reportedly indicated that operational preparations for additional strikes had been completed, although any decision to proceed would ultimately depend on President Donald Trump.

Trump warned that he may authorize military action if diplomatic efforts fail, including the possibility of strikes following the US midterm elections. He continues to insist that Iran must not develop a nuclear weapons capability, while taking a hard line on Tehran’s nuclear activities. American president alternated between threatening overwhelming military force and suggesting that an agreement could help revive Iran’s struggling economy. These mixed messages have intensified uncertainty among Iranians, many of whom fear that another round of fighting could begin with little warning.

The possibility of renewed military action comes against the backdrop of extensive destruction and civilian casualties from earlier hostilities. One of deadliest incidents occurred in late February, when American strike hit an elementary school in Minab, killing 156 children and teachers, according to the reported casualty figures.

US orders Urgent Embassy Staff Evacuation from Saudi Arabia amid Iran threats

The broader conflict has already taken a devastating toll. Figures released by Iran’s Red Crescent Society indicate that at least 1,900 civilians were killed during 40 days of bombardment. Iranian authorities have also estimated the economic damage from the war at approximately $300 billion, reflecting the destruction of infrastructure and disruption of economic activity.

Pakistan in Spotlight

Pakistan emerged as an important intermediary in efforts to prevent another confrontation between Iran and the United States. Alongside Qatar and Russia, Islamabad participated in intensive diplomatic contacts last week aimed at bringing the rival governments back into meaningful negotiations.

Despite those initiatives, two sides remain divided over the future of Iran’s nuclear programme and the conditions necessary for a settlement. Iranian officials have publicly rejected the possibility of yielding to Washington’s demands under military pressure, insisting that threats and sanctions will not force Tehran to abandon its stated position.

Iranian military leaders and lawmakers have warned that any renewed attack would provoke a forceful response, potentially expanding the conflict across the Middle East. Supporters of the government’s hard-line factions have also continued holding rallies demanding retaliation against the United States and Israel.

American officials added to tensions on Friday by claiming that intelligence indicated Iran was considering operations targeting US personnel stationed in the region. These warnings have raised concerns that miscalculation by either side could trigger a wider regional confrontation.

Beyond the military threat, worsening economic conditions have emerged as another major source of anxiety for ordinary Iranians. International sanctions, disruptions to commercial activity and the American naval blockade have placed additional strain on an economy already weakened by war.

Iranian currency has suffered a steep decline against US Dollar, while prices of some essential food items have reportedly surged by more than 200 percent. Rising living costs have made everyday survival increasingly difficult for households dealing with shrinking purchasing power and uncertainty over future supplies.

A credible agreement allowing maritime traffic to resume while easing restrictions on Iranian ports could therefore provide relief well beyond the Middle East. For now, however, hopes of an immediate settlement remain uncertain.

With Tehran disputing reports of a formal offer, Washington maintaining military options and Pakistan continuing its diplomatic engagement, the confrontation remains at a critical stage.

Gujranwala Bride shot dead after Walima for Rejecting Marriage Proposal

25 October 2026 at 09:05

GUJRANWALA – A newlywed bride’s wedding celebrations ended in tragedy after the woman was gunned down while returning home with her husband from their Walima ceremony in Gujranwala.

The victim, identified as Saba, entered new phase of her life, but was aunware about the unambush or such plot. Two armed men intercepted car carrying the couple near Samanabad Chungi. According to police, the attackers specifically target the bride, and Saba suffered multiple gunshot wounds to her chest and abdomen, leaving her critically injured.

She was immediately rushed to nearby hospital in a desperate attempt to save her life. However, despite efforts to provide medical assistance, she succumbed to her injuries, turning what should have been one of the happiest occasions for her family into a devastating tragedy.

Investigators uncovered possible motive that makes the case even more disturbing. According to the First Information Report (FIR), a suspect identified as Sarfaraz allegedly wanted to marry Saba, but his proposal had been rejected. Police suspect that the refusal may have triggered resentment, ultimately leading to the fatal attack shortly after Saba married another man.

The allegation has raised serious questions about the circumstances surrounding the killing, although investigators have yet to establish the complete sequence of events or determine the individual roles of everyone involved.

Police registered a murder case and launched an investigation to identify and arrest the perpetrators. Reports indicate that Crime Control Department (CCD) is engaged in the case, while some local accounts place the incident within the jurisdiction of Aroop Police Station.

Investigators are looking into CCTV footage from the surrounding area to trace the bike borne attackers. The suspects remained at large at the time of the initial reports, with police continuing efforts to track them down.

iPhone Duo Hacked within Hours of Launch as iOS 27 Security Flaw sparks frenzy among Apple Users

25 October 2026 at 08:22

Apple’s much-awaited foldable iPhone landed in unexpected security controversy, with hackets managing to jailbreak new iPhone Duo just hours after its official launch, raising serious questions about the protection offered by the company’s iOS 27 operating system.

The breakthrough came this week, when security researchers from group known as Calif demonstrated how Apple’s software restrictions could be bypassed on the newly released device running iOS 27.1. The development quickly attracted attention because it targeted Apple’s first foldable smartphone almost immediately after its commercial debut. However, security experts distinguish the controlled jailbreak demonstration from an actual cyberattack targeting ordinary iPhone customers.

Apple’s Foldable iPhone Security

Apple unveiled iPhone Duo on September 9, opening pre-orders on October 16 before launching the device across approximately 70 countries and regions on October 23. The premium smartphone features passport-style folding design, combining a 5.4-inch external display with a 7.6-inch inner OLED screen. Powered by Apple’s A20 Pro processor, the device includes a titanium frame, dual-battery configuration and a starting price of $1,999 for its 256GB variant.

While other compatible iPhones continued running iOS 27.0.1, Apple introduced iOS 27.1 specifically for the Duo. But within hours of customers gaining access to the new handset, researchers had already demonstrated a way around its software protections.

iOS 27 Security Glitch

Calif released a short demonstration showing unusual modifications to the iPhone Duo’s Home Screen. Apps icons and widgets appeared to move and bounce as the smartphone was tilted. An animated character also appeared on the display, highlighting the researchers’ ability to alter normally restricted interface elements.

The achievement followed an earlier jailbreak demonstration involving an iPhone 18 Pro running iOS 27.0.1.

Researchers reportedly identified weaknesses involving system-level protections, including potential sandbox escape and Secure Page Table Monitor bypass techniques. AI also reportedly assisted development process, although the researchers have not publicly explained which tools were used or how extensively they contributed.

iPhone Duo to cost around Rs15Lac in Pakistan, enough to Buy Used Cultus, Mehran

iPhone Duo Users Be Hacked Without Warning?

The jailbreak was conducted by security researchers under controlled conditions rather than through a mass hacking campaign. Such demonstrations can require specific technical circumstances, physical access or user interaction, meaning the successful compromise of one research device does not establish that millions of iPhones are exposed to identical attacks.

Another circulating claim suggests that restarting an affected iPhone cannot reverse the compromise. Although Calif’s earlier iPhone 18 Pro jailbreak reportedly survived a reboot, the iPhone Duo demonstration did not clearly establish the same capability.

Apple iOS 27.2 Update

Attention shifted towards Apple’s upcoming iOS 27.2 software update, which is expected to address several weaknesses linked to the jailbreak research. Security researcher Stefan Esser indicated that most of the underlying vulnerabilities had either been disclosed to Apple or were expected to be reported shortly.

As of October 25, iOS 27.2 was undergoing testing, with its public release anticipated around the final week of October or shortly afterward.

Despite speculation, iOS 28 is not connected to the incident. Claims describing the discovery as Apple’s first major security vulnerability since iOS 9 are also inaccurate, as numerous significant iPhone security flaws have been documented and patched over the intervening years.

iPhone Duo owners should follow updates through and install security fixes when available. Users should also avoid unofficial jailbreak downloads, particularly websites claiming to offer Calif’s unreleased tools.

However, passengers continue to face widespread cancellations, with approximately 57 percent of listed departures cancelled despite the airport’s reopening.

The resumption of flights has brought some relief to stranded travellers, but fresh security threats from Yemen’s Houthi fighters have raised concerns over whether normal operations can be fully restored.

Passengers travelling between Riyadh and destinations including Pakistan, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Jordan and the United Kingdom have been advised to verify their flight status before heading to the airport.

Riyadh Airport Latest Flight Status

Flight-information recorded on Sunday morning shows that Riyadh Airport remains severely affected by disruptions, even as authorities gradually restore domestic and international services. 176 departures, which is over 50 percent of listed flights, were cancelled, while several other services remained scheduled to operate.

Although the airport has reopened, flight schedules remain inconsistent across airlines and destinations. The following services were listed as scheduled or cancelled in the October 25 morning flight information.

Flight Number Destination Flight Status
J9226 Kuwait City Scheduled
XY70 Dammam Scheduled
XY251 Amman Scheduled
F335 Jizan Scheduled
F3225 Madinah Scheduled
EK820 Dubai Cancelled
FZ848 Dubai Cancelled
SV109 London Heathrow Cancelled
SV207 Rome Cancelled

Passengers should remember that a scheduled flight does not necessarily mean the aircraft has departed. Airlines may change departure times or cancel services at short notice.

Pakistan to Riyadh Flights

Pakistani passengers travelling to or from Saudi Arabia are also being urged to check their reservations, particularly those booked on services connecting Riyadh with Lahore, Karachi and Islamabad. October 25 arrivals information listed Fly Jinnah flight 9P580 from Lahore and flight 9P612 from Karachi as scheduled arrivals at Riyadh Airport.

Riyadh Air’s Islamabad-to-Riyadh flight RX662 was listed among the cancelled services for October 25. Passengers travelling with Pakistan International Airlines, Saudia, Flynas, Fly Jinnah and other carriers should contact their respective airlines to confirm departures, arrivals and any revised travel arrangements.

Flight operations at King Khalid International Airport were severely disrupted following a series of attacks attributed to Yemen’s Houthi fighters during October. Houthis claimed responsibility for a major attack on October 10, which reportedly killed 13 people and injured more than 300 others.

The incident triggered serious security concerns and forced airlines to suspend or adjust several domestic and international services. After approximately two weeks of disruption, airport authorities announced that flights would resume on October 25.

Despite the reopening announcement, Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree has warned airlines, airport employees and passengers against using King Khalid International Airport. He described the airport as an unsafe military target and threatened further attacks, raising fears of renewed disruption.

Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia’s Civil Defense Directorate reported that an emergency alert had been issued to Riyadh residents on Sunday morning, warning them of a potential security threat. The warning has added uncertainty for passengers and airlines planning to resume regular operations.

Travellers should not assume that the reopening of King Khalid International Airport means all domestic and international services have returned to normal. Passengers are advised to keep their booking information available, monitor airline notifications, check terminal assignments and follow Saudi authorities’ official security instructions.

Saudi authorities have begun restoring services, but there is no confirmed timetable for the complete resumption of all scheduled flights. The pace of recovery is likely to depend on security conditions, airline operational decisions and the availability of aircraft and crews.

Fake Augmentin, No-Spa, Mucaine and Laxoberon Batches found in Pakistan

25 October 2026 at 06:41

LAHORE – Sindh Drug Testing Laboratory (DTL) declared seven batches of six widely used medicines counterfeit, revealing that the tested products contained none of the essential active ingredients needed to treat patients.

ARY News reported alarming findings, raising questions about how fake medicines carrying the names of trusted pharmaceutical brands made their way into the medicine supply chain, potentially putting unsuspecting patients at risk. The pharmac giants behind all six brands denied manufacturing the identified batches, suggesting that counterfeit products may be circulating under the names of established drug manufacturers.

Fake Medicines Alert

Sindh Drugs Authority Director Adnan Rizvi said the laboratory identified counterfeit batches of six medicines commonly used to treat bacterial infections, stomach problems, abdominal cramps, pain, inflammation and constipation.

Medicine
Velosef 500mg Capsules
Augmentin 625mg Tablets
No-Spa Forte 80mg Tablets
Mucaine Suspension
Brexin Tablets
Laxoberon Liquid

The laboratory classified the seven batches as counterfeit under the Drugs Act, 1976, after testing established that the samples lacked the active pharmaceutical ingredients claimed on their labels. This means patients using the affected counterfeit products could have been taking medicines that failed to deliver their intended therapeutic effects.

The investigation took a more troubling turn when the manufacturers associated with the affected brands rejected the authenticity of the identified products. Rizvi revealed that Martin Dow Marker, the manufacturer of Laxoberon, formally informed authorities in writing that the two identified batches had not been produced by the company.

The discovery raised critical question: how did medicines allegedly manufactured by counterfeiters find their way into the pharmaceutical supply chain under the names of recognised brands? Although the laboratory findings establish that the tested batches were counterfeit, authorities have not yet publicly identified their source, distribution network or the individuals responsible for producing them.

Following the startling findings, Sindh Drug Testing Laboratory has forwarded its reports to the Secretary of the Sindh Quality Control Board and the Provincial Drug Inspector, Karachi South, for legal action under the Drugs Act, 1976.

Medical experts warn that counterfeit medicines without their declared active ingredients can have potentially devastating consequences, particularly when patients depend on them to treat serious illnesses.
