FRANCE 24's Emerald Maxwell reports.

Yet behind this assertion of national resolve lies a more complex reality: a country confronting not only the immediate pressures of war, but also its mounting psychological, social and institutional consequences.

FRANCE 24's Sarah Morris reports from Urda, south of Madrid.

'Israeli electorate has moved rightward: Many underestimated extent of fracture in Israeli society'

28 October 2026 at 19:12
Erin Ogunkeye is pleased to welcome Dr. Shira Efron, RAND's Distinguished Israel Policy Chair. “Many of us, myself included, underestimated the extent of the fracture in Israeli society.” It reflects a political system in which ideological polarisation, the rightward shift of the Jewish electorate and the contested legitimacy of Arab political participation have sharply narrowed the possibilities for coalition-building. Dr. Efron illustrates a political landscape in which Netanyahu’s governing bloc has lost ground, yet still has “more cards, or better cards, to play,” she argues, whether through another election, a national unity government or attempts to draw opposition partners into his orbit.

'Israeli president trying to form unity govt: They will not need Arab parties nor Orthodox parties'

28 October 2026 at 15:11
Oliver Farry is pleased to welcome Tamar Sebok, correspondent for the Israeli daily Yedioth Ahronoth, based in France. In an Israeli election marked by political uncertainty, unusually high voter participation and a significant mobilisation of Arab voters, the struggle for power extends far beyond the ballot box. As Sebok explains, the decisive question is not necessarily which party wins the most seats, but which political leader can assemble a viable governing coalition. “You don't know until the coalition is formed who really won,” Sebok explains, capturing the fundamental uncertainty of Israel's parliamentary system. “It's not a question of having the most mandates. It's the question of what kind of acceptance you get from the other parties.”
