Kaylub Giamanco is the father who stopped a school shooter in Bend, Oregon, a week ago. The teen gunman entered the school and killed three students and a teacher before Giamanco stopped him. In a new interview with Oregon Public Broadcasting, Giamanco describes the moments leading up to his heroic actions, how he felt after he took down the shooter and that day's larger tragedy.
Kaylub Giamanco told Oregon Public Broadcasting that he happened to be driving by the Silver Rail Elementary School in Bend when he saw a gunman preparing to enter the school.
“I have to go in. People are going to die,” Kaylub Giamanco told Oregon Public Broadcasting, recalling the moment he saw an armed figure outside an elementary school in Bend, Ore., on Oct. 15.
Becky Drury, who was said to have shielded a student during a deadly shooting in Bend, refuted the account. “The truth is I was shot before I had any chance to act.”
