New poster of Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘King’ reminds fans of ‘Baadshah’

A new poster of Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan’s upcoming action film “King” has been released, and his look has reminded fans of the 1999 film “Baadshah”. The film’s production house, Red Chillies Entertainment, shared the poster on Instagram.

In the poster, Shah Rukh Khan appears in a distinctive, mysterious and somewhat dangerous look, though a romantic side to his character is also highlighted. The line accompanying the post, “Not a killer, a lover,” points to the dual nature of his character in the film.

The film is being directed by Siddharth Anand. Besides Shah Rukh Khan, the cast includes his daughter Suhana Khan, Deepika Padukone, Abhishek Bachchan, Rani Mukerji and Anil Kapoor, among others.

Earlier in the promotional campaign for “King”, different looks of Shah Rukh Khan have already been shown. The clip also featured the famous dialogue “Picture abhi baaki hai” from his film “Om Shanti Om”.

The film is being described as action-packed, with Shah Rukh Khan’s character combining a dangerous persona with a romantic side. “King” is set to release in cinemas on December 24, 2026.

JI to hold Islamabad march in mid-November, says Hafiz Naeem

ISLAMABAD – Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan chief Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman has announced that his party will hold a long march to Islamabad in mid-November.

Speaking at a press conference in Islamabad after meeting Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, the JI chief said the party would no longer postpone the march. He said the government should put in place a mechanism to abolish the levy before the march, adding that the burden of the levy is being borne by the middle class and the poor.

He said it had been agreed that relief on petroleum products would be increased. “We say abolish the levy, they say they will give relief in phases. We will talk to the government further, but the march will take place in mid-November. The government has asked for another seven to ten days,” he said.

Hafiz Naeem said the government should announce a package before the march begins. The levy, which he described as extortion, must end, he said, adding that the relief package is not benefiting the public much.

He added that it might be necessary to sit down and talk on the road. “We want relief in the petrol price, and we also want the levy abolished,” he said.

Hafiz Naeem asked whether the government would have given this relief on petrol had Jamaat-e-Islami not protested. “They were going to raise the Rs80 levy to Rs160. When we protested, they backed down. Our pressure on the government is there, and we will increase it. We want people to get relief and the levy to be abolished as well. Had Jamaat-e-Islami not protested, there would have been no relief package either,” he said.

He said talks are always held with whoever is in government, whether it is a “Form 47” or “Form 48” government. “If a hijacker takes over a plane, you have to talk to him,” he remarked.

Hammad Azhar sent on judicial remand in Jinnah House attack case

LAHORE – An anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Tuesday turned down a police plea for more physical remand of PTI leader Hammad Azhar in the Jinnah House attack case, and ordered him held in jail on judicial remand.

Sarwar Road police had registered a case against several PTI leaders and workers for attacking and vandalising Jinnah House during the May 9, 2023 protests that followed the arrest of former prime minister Imran Khan.

Azhar’s family says he was picked up on Sept 5, but police said the following day that they had no knowledge of any arrest. He was presented before an ATC on Sept 7. The initial 21-day physical remand was later extended at least twice.

After the most recent 12-day remand expired, Azhar was brought before ATC Judge Sardar Muhammad Akram Khan on Tuesday.

The investigating officer asked for additional physical remand of the former finance minister so that a polygraph, or lie detector, test could be carried out.

Azhar’s lawyer, Barrister Abuzar Salman Niazi, countered that such a test cannot be done without the suspect’s consent. Citing a Lahore High Court ruling, he said the procedure must take place during judicial remand, and that the suspect must also tell a magistrate whether he agrees to it.

Azhar himself told the court that, if the law permitted him to decline, he did not wish to take the test. He argued that a suspect should not be made to suffer because the prosecution was allegedly unaware of the legal requirements.

After hearing both sides on the proposed test, Judge Akram rejected the police request and remanded Azhar to jail on judicial custody.

Welcoming the decision in a post on X, Barrister Niazi wrote that his client’s “50-day physical remand finally ends”, adding that Azhar had been sent to Kot Lakhpat jail.

Azhar held several federal portfolios during the PTI government, including finance, industries and energy.

After the May 2023 unrest, when the state moved against the party’s leadership, he went into hiding and resurfaced publicly a year later, on May 22, 2024.

In 2025, he repeated his decision to step down as president of the PTI’s Punjab chapter, citing lack of access to Imran Khan.

Govt working to end six-month penalty for crossing 200-unit limit, says Awais Leghari

ISLAMABAD – Federal Minister for Power Division Awais Leghari said the government is working to end the practice of charging extra for six months when a consumer’s usage exceeds 200 units by even a single unit.

Speaking in the Senate session on the burden of distribution companies’ tariffs on consumers, Abid Sher Ali said that if consumption rises from 200 to 201 units, the tariff jumps from Rs15 to Rs30 per unit. He asked how a person using 201 units could be made to pay a bill at the 400-unit slab rate, adding that by increasing the units, the authorities were piling the burden on poor people. “You suck the blood of the poor man for six months,” he said.

Responding to Abid Sher Ali’s calling attention notice, Awais Leghari said work was under way to end the six-month extra charges applied after exceeding 200 units by one unit, and that the 200-unit threshold could be raised to 250 units.

He said the number of consumers using fewer than 200 units had reached 20 million. He added that it would not be appropriate to give a discount to everyone below 200 units, as this group also includes people who have solar panels, which reduce their units.

Awais Leghari said consumers living below the poverty line would be given the benefit of such a discount.

CM Maryam endorses ‘tit-for-tat’ reply to street assaults in Punjab

MANDI BAHAUDDIN – Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz said on Tuesday that people attacked in the province should answer violence in the same way, adding that she had personally advised victims to do so.

Speaking at a ceremony in Mandi Bahauddin where scholarships and laptops were handed out under the Hon’haar programme, she warned that anyone found guilty would face action, even if they belonged to her own party.

She also rejected rule by intimidation, saying that fear is not a substitute for governance and that leaders should hold to one principle and apply it consistently.

Recalling a deadly case in Multan in which an orphaned teenager was run over, she said the tragedy still weighed on her mind.

The chief minister also spoke about two other incidents: the abuse of a woman on a motorcycle and an attack at a petrol station.

The first involved video footage from Lahore, in which a man cut off a woman riding a scooty on a busy road, blocked her with his motorbike, and then brutally beat her. Police traced and arrested him using footage and data from dozens of cameras run by the Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA). A Lahore court, however, directed that he be freed if no other case was pending against him.

In the second case, a man attacked a worker at a filling station in Jubilee Town. Reports say the attendant asked the customer, who had come to fill his tank, not to smoke on the premises. The man then got out of his SUV, allegedly beat the attendant and drove away.

Maryam Nawaz reiterated that her government now stands with the “oppressed”, adding that she is not worried about any case that may be filed against her in future.

Cyberattack warning issued for Pakistan’s govt and banking systems over e-Mudhra flaw

ISLAMABAD –  There are fears of cyberattacks on key digital systems, including the country’s government and financial institutions, and the National Cyber Emergency Response Team (National CERT) has issued an advisory.

According to details, flaws in e-Mudhra’s digital security certificates have created the risk of cyberattacks on government, financial and critical information infrastructure.

It has been revealed that eight private security keys of e-Mudhra’s certificate authority have been compromised, of which six are used for TLS certificates and two for code signing. The weak keys create the risk of forged digital certificates, impersonation of websites and online services, interference with internet traffic, surveillance and data tampering.

National CERT has directed the relevant institutions to immediately update operating systems, browsers and software, block the affected certificates and update security trust stores. Mobile apps, computer software and other systems that use separate certificate stores have also been told to take protective measures.

According to the advisory, organizations should monitor for suspicious certificates, unusual network activity and connection redirection, and report any suspected forged certificates or data interception incidents to National CERT Pakistan.

Two soldiers martyred, six terrorists killed in DI Khan operation

RAWALPINDI – Security forces killed six terrorists belonging to the “Fitna al-Khawarij,” which the military describes as an Indian proxy, in an intelligence-based operation in the Zarkani area of Dera Ismail Khan. Two Pakistan Army soldiers were martyred in an intense exchange of fire.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the operation was carried out on October 24, 2026, after reports of the presence of terrorists in the area. Security forces responded effectively and killed six militants, whom the ISPR described as Indian-sponsored.

The ISPR said Naik Ghulam Murtaza and Sepoy Tasir Ahmad embraced martyrdom while fighting bravely. Naik Ghulam Murtaza, 36, belonged to Gujrat district, while 30-year-old Sepoy Tasir Ahmad was from Talagang district.

Weapons and ammunition were also recovered from the slain militants, who, according to the military’s media wing, had been involved in numerous terrorist attacks on security forces and law enforcement agencies and in the killing of innocent civilians.

The ISPR said a clearance operation is under way to eliminate any other militants present in the area.

It added that, under the National Action Plan approved by the Federal Apex Committee and in line with the “Azm-e-Istehkam” vision, counter-terrorism operations by security forces and law enforcement agencies will continue at full pace to completely rid the country of externally backed terrorism.

The ISPR also said the sacrifices of brave soldiers in defence of the homeland further strengthen the resolve to eliminate terrorism from the country.

NCCIA arrests father for making abusive videos of his own children for online sale

ISLAMABAD – A father has been arrested for allegedly producing sexually exploitative videos of his own children and selling them online as part of a wider network, a senior National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) official said on Sunday.

Speaking at a press conference in Islamabad, NCCIA Additional Director Shoaib Khan said the arrested man was making videos of his own children. Describing it as an unusual case, he said the children were aged between five and six, and that the videos were produced and sold through the Telegram app. A group had formed around circulating and selling such material, he added.

Khan said the network had also filmed the abuse of animals. He said nothing of this nature had previously surfaced in Pakistan’s history, and that the identities of those involved in such cases were not disclosed. According to him, the main suspect belonged to Skardu, while investigations were under way in Multan, Islamabad and southern Punjab.

Online sexual harassment case

Khan said the NCCIA had also arrested a suspect in an online sexual harassment case a day earlier, following a complaint from Karachi. He said action would also be taken against parents who knew of crimes involving their children but failed to report them. “In cases of sexual harassment, parents know what their child is doing,” he said.

The agency is launching an awareness campaign at universities and will also teach parents how to monitor what their children view on mobile phones. Khan said he would personally visit schools in Islamabad to raise awareness among parents, and that the campaign would later be expanded nationwide.

Crackdown on call centres

Khan said NCCIA Islamabad had also carried out crackdowns on call centres and identified a large number of such facilities in the capital. Seven FIRs had recently been registered, and between 13,000 and 14,000 devices had been recovered in these cases.

He warned the public not to share one-time passwords (OTPs) or PINs with anyone, noting that fake banking websites had been created that can look identical to genuine ones.

On Chinese nationals arrested in Pakistan, Khan said they would be punished under Pakistani law. After completing their sentences, their visas would be cancelled and they would be deported.
