House Democrats widen Guilfoyle pay-for-play probe

House Oversight Committee Democrats on Friday requested financial records and communications from the producer of Kimberly Guilfoyle’s podcast, widening their inquiry into allegations that Guilfoyle, the former U.S. ambassador to Greece, sought money from a Trump donor in exchange for access to the administration.

In a letter to Drew Lynch, executive producer of “The Kimberly Guilfoyle Show,” Rep. Robert Garcia, D-Calif., the committee’s ranking member, sought documents tied to the donor, Eric Deters, and to Trump administration officials.

The letter, which was reviewed by MS NOW, says Lynch appears to have known about the “arrangement” between Guilfoyle and Deters as early as January 2025, and that he and Deters discussed the political influence Deters had been promised.

Citing text messages reviewed by Democratic committee staff, the letter says Lynch communicated extensively with Deters, often on Guilfoyle’s behalf “or in furtherance of connecting Mr. Deters with senior Trump Administration officials such as FBI General Counsel Sam Ramer and FBI Director Kash Patel.”

“Additionally, in June 2025, Mr. Deters reminded you about what former Ambassador Guilfoyle described as her and Mr. Deters’s ‘arrangement’ and conveyed to you that Ms. Guilfoyle said you ‘may do some rewarding to some of it,’” Garcia wrote in the letter.

Garcia asked Lynch to respond by Nov. 13.

The letter is the third that Oversight Democrats have sent on the matter since The Wall Street Journal first reported that Guilfoyle, the former fiancée of Donald Trump Jr., asked Deters to pay off her $100,000 credit card bill ahead of her confirmation hearing. Deters told the Journal that he wanted help with Justice Department and IRS matters, but that Guilfoyle never followed through.

Guilfoyle has since left her post after Trump requested her resignation and has not replied to the committee’s outreach for documents issued earlier this month. A lawyer for Guilfoyle told the Journal that his client challenged the messages as inauthentic, and that Deters still owed Guilfoyle “a balance for traveling to and supporting these patriotic events.” In response, Deters filed a defamation lawsuit against Guilfoyle and her legal team.

The letters are aimed at determining whether anyone in the Trump administration’s orbit acted at Guilfoyle’s urging. They also offer another preview of the corruption-focused oversight Democrats plan to pursue if they win back the House in Tuesday’s midterm elections, which would give them control of the committee and its subpoena power.

Democrats on the Oversight Committee plan to aggressively pursue inquiries not “just into the Trump children,” but anyone involved in the “broader Trump crime family, too,” said a committee staffer, who was granted anonymity to discuss internal plans.

Neither Lynch nor the White House immediately responded to MS NOW’s requests for comment.
