DIRECT. Guerre en Ukraine : les États-Unis vont vendre 500 missiles Patriot à Kiev pour un montant de 2 milliards de dollars

Amid the chaos, havoc and war caused by a capricious and amoral US president, countries are waking up to the dangers of being excluded and abused by America
Never has there been a time when the world has been more interconnected than now. What happens in the secretive inner councils in Tehran, the mountains of south-west Yemen, the steppe of the Donbas, the still bloody wasteland that is Gaza and even the elegant boulevards of Paris and Milan have a common thread.
One cannot understand one set of conflicts without weaving them into another, and it is this very interdependence that is making each problem so contagious, layered and difficult to resolve, leaving the world to live as if trapped inside a pressure cooker on the brink of an explosion.

Yo no sé muy bien a qué he dedicado mi vida.

Russian foreign minister heavily criticised by EU foreign policy chief, and plans for the traditional ‘family photo’ abandoned. What we know on day 1,711
The EU’s foreign policy chief has accused Russian foreign minister Sergei Lavrov of presenting “lies” in G20 meetings in Atlanta about the Ukrainian conflict and suggested Moscow was not ready for peace negotiations. “We were talking about the big geopolitical crisis, including Ukraine, and we were able to address Sergei Lavrov head-on with this,” Kaja Kallas told Agence France-Presse on the sidelines of a meeting on Friday. “Of course, he put forward a lot of lies, a lot of false narratives that we were also able to then rebuke.” Kallas said Russia did not appear ready to move ahead in peace talks. “Even if they would have said this in words, their deeds tell something else,” she said. “July, August, and September have been the deadliest months for civilians in Ukraine.” She added: “They should show with their deeds that they are ready to negotiate, but they are clearly, clearly not.”
At the talks, which are focusing on global economic growth, energy security and trade, European officials pushed Russia to secure a ceasefire in the Black Sea, an important agriculture export corridor. However, Lavrov conceded no ground on Ukraine and at a press conference, he criticised Europeans for their “arrogant boycott” while praising the willingness of US President Donald Trump’s administration to engage with Moscow.
Plans for a traditional family photo of G20 ministers were called off after some European officials objected to appearing alongside Lavrov. Moscow has been shunned by most of the West since it invaded Ukraine, and Lavrov himself remains under international sanctions. The UK foreign secretary, Ed Miliband, said: “We do not engage in that way with the Russians and have not for a number of years.” German foreign minister Johann Wadephul said there would be no photo because “there is no normality with Russia”.
US secretary of state Marco Rubio spoke briefly with Lavrov on the sidelines of the G20 meeting, with the Russian minister saying both sides had a “decent talk”. Trump has invited Russian President Vladimir Putin to Florida in December and has eased some sanctions on Moscow while touting a deal for Russia to sell diesel as prices soared. The Russian foreign minister’s G20 appearance comes also ahead of fresh negotiations expected between Moscow, Kyiv and Washington in November.
Meanwhile, the Trump administration on Friday approved the sale of 500 Patriot missiles to Ukraine for an estimated $2.1bn, the state department said, but Ukraine’s president has warned deliveries could take years. The approval, which goes to Congress for review, comes after weeks of complaints by Ukrainian authorities that its supplies of the interceptor missiles were dwindling. A state department statement did not provide an estimate for when the weapons could be delivered but Volodymyr Zelenskyy said late Friday in a post on X that “deliveries may begin ONLY IN A FEW YEARS”. Weapons sales typically take years to fulfil, and two people briefed on the US decision said the missiles – which are yet to be manufactured – are not expected to be delivered until a couple of years into the 2030s.
Patriot missiles are among the most important weapons Ukraine has to intercept Russian drones and missiles. The Ukrainian president on Friday suggested the US and European allies could give his country missiles they have stockpiled now, which would later be replenished by the new purchase. “We are asking our American partners to find a solution for the time when there is a real danger and a real need to use PAC-3 interceptors,” Zelenskyy said.
People living in the besieged Russian-held city of Oleshky in southern Ukraine were evacuated on Friday as part of a joint relief operation, the first of its kind in four years and eight months of war. The city, which lies on the Russian-occupied side of the Dnipro River has suffered months of food and medical shortages, leading to warnings of starvation for the few thousand people remaining there, including children. A humanitarian convoy arrived in the city with food and medicine and to evacuate those wishing to leave for Russia or Ukraine. It’s not clear how many people chose to evacuate but US first lady Melania Trump posted on social media on Friday that the convoy could safely evacuate more than 750 people.

The action was driven by the collective No Harbour for Genocide. Organizers said the 24-hour work stoppage would freeze goods across Mediterranean ports and cut the supply lines that keep the war machine running.
RELATED: UN Commission Accuses Israel of War Crimes and Genocide in West Bank and Gaza
Unions from Türkiye, Morocco, Italy, France, Greece and Spain’s Basque Country issued a joint statement demanding an immediate end to Israel’s military siege, the opening of a humanitarian corridor and recognition of a Palestinian state within the 1967 borders. They also rejected any support for military interventions in the Middle East.
“Ports must not be used to transport weapons, ammunition, military equipment or troops,” the unions said, while insisting that infrastructure should not serve as bases for NATO, United States or the European Union.
Dockworkers in 113 ports across 22 countries stopped work today because the governments of Britain, Europe and America still ship weapons to Israel, which a UN report this week says is continuing to commit genocide in Gaza. pic.twitter.com/6yaXhi2PcQ
— Your Party (@thisisyourparty) October 30, 2026
The intersyndical collective framed the strike as a blockade that governments have refused to impose. “A load rejected in one port continues on to the next. If it is rejected in all ports, the load stops,” they argued.
“Without us nothing moves. Without our hands, containers remain still, and the war machine is blocked,” the statement added.
The mobilization had multiple epicenters. In Italy, the USB and ORSA Porti unions paralyzed the docks of Genoa, Livorno, Trieste and Naples, extending the action into a general strike that disrupted transport and public services. Workers there oppose the rearmament drive led by Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni’s government and reject austerity budgets.
In Greece, the ENEDEP union called a stoppage at the port of Piraeus and demanded collective agreements guaranteeing safety conditions. In France, the CGT FNPD led blockades in Marseille and Le Havre amid ongoing student protests.
In Spain, the LAB union organized demonstrations in Bilbao and Pasajes. In United States, rallies were announced at the ports of Elizabeth, New Jersey, Oakland and San Francisco.
In Türkiye and Morocco, the LIMAN-İŞ and ODT unions joined with assemblies at the dockside, where they demanded the rupture of treaties that allow logistical supply to Israel. The call echoes the Palestinian trade union movement’s appeal to block military shipments.

The strike unfolded as a recent UN report warned that Israeli authorities and forces continue committing genocidal acts in Gaza despite the October ceasefire agreement. The report details crimes including extermination, persecution and torture in the occupied territories.
Israel’s military campaign in Gaza has left more than 74,555 people dead and 175,727 wounded, according to the figures cited by organizers.
The international action signals a widening labor front against the war. From the Mediterranean to the Pacific coast of the United States, the message from the docks was the same, that no cargo bound for the conflict should sail unchallenged.
Organizers described the strike as proof that workers hold direct power over the logistics of war. If the ports refuse the load, they said, the load stops, regardless of what governments decide.
The coordinated shutdown marks one of the broadest labor actions against Israel’s offensive since the genocide began, connecting dockers, students and unions across three continents in a single day of refusal.

An international travel exhibition taking place in the UK next month will promote an Israeli government agency involved in the ethnic cleansing of Palestinians and the construction of illegal Jewish settlements in occupied East Jerusalem, Middle East Eye (MEE) reported on 29 October.
World Travel Market (WTM) London, one of the world’s largest international tourism trade exhibitions, is scheduled to take place between 3 and 5 November.
The exhibition brings together tourism officials, travel companies, airlines, hotels, and tour operators to promote destinations and negotiate business deals.
It will include a stand for the Israeli government’s tourist office promoting the Jerusalem Development Authority (JDA) and affiliated companies.
The JDA is involved in the construction and expansion of Jewish settlements on occupied Palestinian territory, including constructing so-called Biblical parks.
Israel’s construction of settlements in the West Bank, Gaza, and East Jerusalem is illegal under international law.
Biblical parks are tourist attractions or heritage sites designed around places, events, landscapes, and stories described in the Bible, particularly the Old and New Testaments.
They may include archaeological ruins, reconstructed ancient villages, religious monuments, gardens containing plants mentioned in the Bible, and exhibits illustrating biblical history.

— Ounka (@OunkaOnX) May 30, 2026
“Hundreds of Palestinians have been displaced or are at risk of being forced out of their homes to make space for these parks in violation of the Geneva Conventions,” stated the the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement.
The JDA has also participated in the expansion of illegal settlements in East Jerusalem, such as Gilo.
It plans to build large settlement housing projects near the Palestinian neighborhoods of Beit Safafa and Sheikh Jarrah in East Jerusalem, which will displace dozens of Palestinian families.
Israel’s stand at WTM London will be shared with Africa Israel Hotels, which has also been involved in several settlement projects in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.
iTravelJerusalem, which promotes tourism in Israeli-occupied East Jerusalem, will also be present, MEE noted.
WTM London is allowing the participation of the Israeli agency and travel firms despite the UK’s ban on goods produced in Jewish settlements in the Israeli-occupied West Bank last month.
British Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband announced the ban, referring to Jewish settlers as terrorists who are carrying out ethnic cleansing against Palestinians.
The announcement came after the UK and other European countries condemned the Israeli government’s decision to move ahead with the E1 settlement project.
The E1 project is designed to bisect much of the occupied West Bank and prevent the establishment of a Palestinian state on contiguous Palestinian territory.

One of the most common myths in American cuisine is that while olive oil has tremendous health benefits, particularly extra virgin olive oil, it should not be used in cooking and deep frying, because it allegedly has a low smoke point, and applying heat will damage or cause the oil to become toxic.
However, this is a myth, probably propagated by the seed oil business in the United States which began extracting “vegetable” oils from corn and soybeans just after World War II. These are not healthy oils, and they were not in the food chain prior to WW II. But because these crops are heavily subsidized by the U.S. Government, they are the cheapest oils to use for food mass production.
The truth is that olive oil has been used for cooking and deep frying for thousands of years starting with the Egyptians, to the Greeks, to the Romans, and today in most Mediterranean countries in Europe such as Spain and Italy, and the Middle East in countries like Israel and Turkey.
The main reason why olive oil has not been used in the mass food market in the United States is simply one of cost. Olive oil is not subsidized, and therefore it cannot compete with the cheaper seed oils that are.
From Actually Italian:
Olive oil is perfect for frying. The smoke point myth, debunked.
Excerpts:
The claim that olive oil should not be used for frying — because its smoke point is too low, because it becomes toxic, because it imparts a strong flavour — has been repeated so many times by food writers, nutritionists, and cooking shows that it has achieved the status of received wisdom.
It is not correct.
Italians have been frying in olive oil for two thousand years and the food has been excellent throughout.
The argument against olive oil for frying is economic, not scientific.
From HomeCookingTech.com:
The Surprising History of Deep Frying: What You Didn’t Know
Excerpts:
Deep frying, the process of cooking food by submerging it in hot oil, has a long and rich history that dates back to ancient times.
The origins of deep frying can be traced back to the ancient civilizations of Egypt, Greece, and Rome, where they used a primitive form of deep frying to cook their food.
In these early civilizations, deep frying was primarily done in olive oil, which was readily available and had a high smoke point, making it ideal for frying. The Greeks and Romans would often deep fry their food in large, shallow pans called “paella,” which were filled with hot oil and placed over an open flame.
From Foods and Wines from Spain:
Frying in virgin olive oil
Crispy croquettes, crackly fried anchovies, golden-brown fried potatoes. Fried foods are some of the very best of Spanish cooking. The technique is dead-simple -just immerse foods in bubbling hot olive oil.
In Spain, where olive oil is an essential ingredient for home cooks, absolutely everything gets fried -croquettes, fish, potatoes, but also many traditional sweets such as doughnuts (rosquillas) or torrijas.
Fried foods historically play a part in Spanish cuisine.
The olive tree was first planted in Spain by the Greeks and the Phoenicians. Besides its use in cooking, the oil was valued for light, for medicinal purposes, and for beauty treatments too. When Spain became part of the Roman Empire, the olive plantations were extended in a wide swath across what is now Andalusia.
During the centuries of Moorish rule, both the Islamic and Sephardic Jewish communities, neither of which used pig fat, cooked with olive oil. Some Jewish holidays, such as Hannukah, enshrined fried foods such as buñuelos, deep-fried pastry puffs, which are still made in many Spanish villages and cities.
The myth that olive oil, and specifically extra virgin olive oil, is easily damaged by heating it above its smoke point, has been thoroughly discredited.
From U.S. News:
Why You Should Stop Worrying About Olive Oil’s Smoke Points
Learn more about the smoke point of olive oil and why you shouldn’t worry about it.
Excerpts:
Whether you drizzle it on your salad or use it to sauté your veggies, olive oil is a staple in kitchens. And for good reason: Extra-virgin olive oil is a key ingredient in the Mediterranean diet, which expert panelists voted No. 1 on U.S. News’ 2023 Best Diets list. That’s the Mediterranean diet’s sixth consecutive win.
But in recent years, alarms have repeatedly sounded over fears of olive oil’s “smoke point” and how heating olive oil to this temperature could release harmful compounds. Cautious consumers worried that heating olive oil during cooking would, at best, take away from olive oil’s health benefits and, at worst, be dangerous.
However, 2018 research published in Acta Scientific Nutritional Health shows that not only is extra-virgin olive oil safe when cooked at extremely high heat, it is more chemically stable at those temperatures than other common cooking oils.
Newer research continues to debunk the “smoke point” myth of olive oil.
One study was published in November of 2025 in the Journal Foods. As it turns out, there actually are no standardized tests that can conclusively determine the smoke point of various olive oils.
Deciphering the Complexity of Smoke Point in Virgin Olive Oils to Develop Simple Predictive Models
Abstract
The smoke point marks the onset of thermal degradation in edible oils. Although in this work we validated and improved its determination, it still relies on a subjective visual assessment and remains incompletely understood in relation to oil composition.
This limitation reduces its reliability as a criterion for selecting frying oils in both industrial and culinary contexts.
This study provides a systematic evaluation of how key chemical attributes of virgin olive oils influence their smoke point and proposes predictive models that could overcome the limitations of direct measurement. Forty-eight virgin olive oils were characterized, and multivariate modeling was applied to identify the most influential predictors.
Free fatty acid content was the main determinant of the smoke point, exhibiting a strong inverse relationship, while saturated fatty acids and oxidative stability were shown to increase the smoke point by limiting the formation of volatile lipid oxidation products.
Partial least squares models enabled accurate predictions using only routine quality parameters, such as free fatty acid content and saturated fatty acid content. Gaussian process regression further improved predictive performance and achieved high accuracy using free fatty acid content alone or, alternatively, other analytical parameters that are easily and routinely determined in olive oil.
These findings offer a potential practical framework for estimating the smoke point without direct testing, with relevant implications for virgin olive oil quality control and the selection of oils for high-temperature applications.
One of the main deciding factors of how olive oils are going to react to high heat, is their antioxidant levels, measured in percentages of phenols.
Extra virgin olive oil has the highest levels of antioxidants among olive oils, making it more resistant to damage by heat.
Here is a study that was just published earlier this year (2026).
Deep Frying in Extra-Virgin Olive Oil: Evaluating the Influence of the Type of Food and Breading on the Degradation of Phenolic Compounds
Excerpts:
Deep-frying in vegetable oils is a widespread practice around the world. The use of extra virgin olive oil (EVOO) for frying is supported by the presence of bioactive compounds such as phenols, which contribute to oxidative stability and are partially transferred to the fried food.
We monitored by LC–MS/MS, the degradation of phenols in Picual and Arbequina EVOOs during consecutive frying cycles of different types of foods.
Currently, numerous studies suggest that VOO is the best oil for deep-frying due to its lipidic composition, enriched with monounsaturated fatty acids, and the phenolic presence with a protective effect during cooking.
If you search the database of The National Library of Medicine’s PubMed for “health benefits of extra virgin olive oil“, you will find hundreds of studies.
In all fairness, some of these studies, primarily ones conducted by U.S. researchers, try to debunk known olive oil health benefits, particularly those that threaten the multi-billion dollar cancer treatment industry in the U.S.
Studies conducted by the olive oil producing countries are much more positive, pointing out the health benefits for cancer and cardiovascular diseases, and also women’s health.
Here is a Spanish study from 2024:
Association between olive oil consumption and all-cause, cardiovascular and cancer mortality in adult subjects: a systematic review and meta-analysis
Food Function. 2024 Nov 25
Abstract
Background: The Mediterranean diet is characterized by the preferential use of olive oil (OO) and has been associated with health benefits possibly mediated by its bioactive compounds.
Objectives: We aimed to analyze the association between OO consumption and changes in all-cause mortality, cardiovascular mortality and cancer mortality in the adult population.
Methods: A systematic review was conducted using the Pubmed, Scopus, Web of Science and Cochrane Library databases up to October 2024. DerSimonian and Laird’s random effects method was used to calculate pooled estimates of hazard ratios (HRs) and their 95% confidence intervals (95% CIs) to determine the association between OO use and changes in all-cause mortality, cardiovascular mortality, and cancer mortality.
Results: Fourteen studies were included in the systematic review and seven in the meta-analysis. Our results showed an association between OO consumption and reduction in all-cause mortality (HR: 0.85; 95% CI: 0.80-0.91), cardiovascular mortality (HR: 0.84; 95% CI: 0.76-0.93) and cancer mortality (HR: 0.89; 95% CI: 0.86-0.93).
Conclusions: Consumption of OO particularly reduces cardiovascular mortality (16%), followed by all-cause mortality (15%) and cancer mortality (11%) in the adult population.
There is also evidence that olive oil has a positive effect on women’s health and those going through menopause.
Diet to Reduce the Metabolic Syndrome Associated with Menopause. The Logic for Olive Oil
Nutrients. 2020 Oct 18
Abstract
The rates of metabolic syndrome are increasing in parallel with the increasing prevalence of obesity, primarily due to its concomitant insulin resistance. This is particularly concerning for women, as the years around menopause are accompanied by an increase in visceral obesity, a strong determinant of insulin resistance.
A fall in estrogens and increase in the androgen/estrogen ratio is attributed a determining role in this process, which has been confirmed in other physiological models, such as polycystic ovary syndrome. A healthy lifestyle, with special emphasis on nutrition, has been recommended as a first-line strategy in consensuses and guidelines.
A consistent body of evidence has accumulated suggesting that the Mediterranean diet, with olive oil as a vital component, has both health benefits and acceptable adherence. Herein, we provide an updated overview of current knowledge on the benefits of olive oil most relevant to menopause-associated metabolic syndrome, including an analysis of the components with the greatest health impact, their effect on basic mechanisms of disease, and the state of the art regarding their action on the main features of metabolic syndrome.
Protective Effects and Benefits of Olive Oil and Its Extracts on Women’s Health
Nutrients. 2021 Nov 27
Abstract
Women and men share similar diseases; however, women have unique issues, including gynecologic diseases and diseases related to menstruation, menopause, and post menopause.
In recent decades, scientists paid more attention to natural products and their derivatives because of their good tolerability and effectiveness in disease prevention and treatment.
Olive oil is an essential component in the Mediterranean diet, a diet well known for its protective impact on human well-being.
Investigation of the active components in olive oil, such as oleuropein and hydroxytyrosol, showed positive effects in various diseases. Their effects have been clarified in many suggested mechanisms and have shown promising results in animal and human studies, especially in breast cancer, ovarian cancer, postmenopausal osteoporosis, and other disorders.
This review summarizes the current evidence of the role of olives and olive polyphenols in women’s health issues and their potential implications in the treatment and prevention of health problems in women.
