Final vote count for Israeli elections yields no clear winner

Israel’s Central Elections Committee (CEC) released the final vote count on Friday, October 30, confirming that neither major political coalition managed to reach the 61-seat majority threshold necessary to form a government in the 120-seat parliament (known as Knesset).

The results show that the pro-Netanyahu bloc secured 53 seats, while the anti-Netanyahu bloc led by Gadi Eisenkot reached 48 seats. Meanwhile, Arab-led lists combined attained 19 seats, achieving an all-time high record in the history of Israel’s Knesset.

The complete official results will be formally presented to Israeli President Isaac Herzog on Wednesday, November 4 once the CEC finalizes the review of any pending complaints or errors.

What do these results mean and what comes next?

The outcome indicates a political deadlock that may be resolved with one of the following four options:

Eisenkot’s bloc allying with Arabs

The formation of an alliance that combines the 48-Eisenkot’s bloc with the 19 seats of both Arab-led lists to reach a 67-seat majority.

However, it seems that there is no consensus between the parties within Eisenkot’s bloc on the possibility of a partnership with Arab factions.

Broad unity government combining Nenyahu’s bloc and Eisenkot’s bloc

Some analysts speculate that the Likud party led by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu could try to build a broad national coalition by teaming up with Eisenkot’s bloc.

Nonetheless, clashing electoral campaign agendas on each side would obstruct this option. As ousting Netanyahu was one of the main goals of Eisenkot’s coalition, either this bloc breaks its campaign promise, or Netanyahu steps down, abandoning his far-right and ultra-Orthodox allies.

Netanyahu’s bloc pulling individual right-wing defectors from Eisenkot’s bloc

To hit the 61-seat threshold required to form the government, Netanyahu may need to convince individual lawmakers or an entire party from Eisenkot’s bloc to defect and join his coalition. At least 8 defectors are needed to accomplish that.

Although right-wing opposition figures like Naftali Bennett and Avigdor Liberman share common ground with Netanyahu on issues related to Israel’s security, their political rivalry with him makes this scenario less probable.

No agreement leading to new elections

If neither coalition manages to form a government, the Knesset will automatically dissolve, with new elections to be held in the spring of 2027.

During these months of stalemate, Netanyahu continues to hold office as caretaker prime minister.

Election results trigger protests in Israel

The outcomes of the elections pushed crowds to take to the streets across Israel, calling on Eisenkot to break the deadlock by forming an unprecedented coalition with Arab-led parties.

Protesters also gathered near Netanyahu’s house, demanding an end to Israel’s genocidal aggression on Gaza, and accusing his government of using state security forces to keep him in power.

It is worth noting that an investigation has been initiated by the Israel Security Agency (Shin Bet) and the Institute for Intelligence and Special Operations (Mossad) into allegations of illegal campaign funding from Qatar and Türkiye to boost Arab voter turnout.
